Mpeg Advance Xtra
 UPDATE HISTORY

Mpeg Advance Xtra is the successor to DirectMediaXtra and MpegXtra. It combines the best features of our previous MPEG playback Xtras into a cross-platform solution, while adding a number of new features and full compatibility with Director 8.5, Director MX, Director MX 2004, Director 11, Windows XP, Windows Vista, MacOSX and Classic.

 HISTORY
VERSION 2.0.3 12/15/09

IMPROVED: Compatibility with D11.5 on OSX and Quicktime 7.6 and later
FIXED: The Windows taskbar no longer flicks briefly on some machines when used with fullscreen projectors and DTS sprites
FIXED: There was a bug introduced in Quicktime 7.6 on OSX where it was no longer possible to control the volume of individual MPEG videos. This is fixed by Apple in Quicktime 7.6.1, and a workaround has been included in the Xtra as well for those running 7.6.

FIXED: The internal toolbar has the correct colors when DTS is enabled in OSX on a Mac Intel machine running D11.5.

VERSION 2.0.2 08/18/08

FIXED: member(x).filename now returns the correct path for the linked media file, fixing a regression introduced in version 2.0

VERSION 2.0.1 06/24/08

FIXED: On MacTel Leopard DTS sprites now display the correct colors, without a blue tint. This fix only affects the Universal Binary Xtra, so users of Director MX and MX2004 do not need to upgrade. The Windows, Classic and Carbon Xtras are still at version 2.0.0.

VERSION 2.0 03/25/08

NEW: Compatible with Director 11 and Unicode (UTF8) strings

NEW: When used with Director 11, support for Windows Vista and MacOSX Tiger and Leopard on Intel and PPC (UB)

NEW: Cuepoints are stored internally in Unicode (UTF8) format, and are translated automatically when upgrading older movies and/or using version 2 in older releases of Director.

IMPROVED: Registration warning is displayed only when a sprite is about to be spanned, and no longer at movie startup time.

VERSION 1.5.2.1 (Windows authoring fix only) 07/29/05

Corrected an issue with the authoring properties window: some buttons would not advance settings when the mouse button was clicked and held over them. This fix is for authoring on Windows only, does not impact playback of files and projectors, and also does not apply to the Mac versions of the Xtras. The version number of the Xtra download package is still the same (1.5.2), only the Windows Xtra file (.x32) was updated to 1.5.2.1 to reflect the new version. Update is optional for users authoring on the Mac, as the code affected never runs in cross platform projectors.

VERSION 1.5.2 07/19/05

Properties window can now be dragged to facilitate operation in dual monitor environments.

Added: Workaround for Windows XP - SP2 issue described at technote MA010
Added: Workaround to allow safe operation with editable text sprites that had the Accessibility behaviors attached. Previously this could cause instabilities due to a known Director issue with editable text members generating multiple span end events to other sprites when they are terminated.

VERSION 1.5.1 09/17/04

Certified for operation with the Director MX 2004 10.1 update

Added: cross platform resources needed to build Classic projectors from MX 2004 10.1 Windows.
Changed preload strategy on the Mac, improving performance and avoiding the stutter at start that occurred with certain files while they were being preloaded.

VERSION 1.5 02/01/04

Certified for Director MX 2004
Certified for MacOS X 10.3 / Quicktime 6.4 / 6.5

Includes split files needed to support cross-publishing of projectors when using Director MX 2004
Added: Resume playback after seek operation when using the internal toolbar (USER REQUEST).
Improved searchpath resolution behavior. It's not necessary to close and reopen a recently created movie anymore.

Fixed: addcuepoint with cuepoint names greater than 32 characters will not cause an error. The name is truncated to fit the maximum allowed length.

Fixed: it's no longer possible to seek beyond the media duration on Windows when adding cuepoints in the properties dialog box.

Improved: on Windows the Xtra now preloads Microsoft's MPEG 1 audio decoder filters in order to avoid a problem with old versions of Ligos MPEG audio components registered incorrectly in the system.

VERSION 1.04 02/14/03
Improved performance on MacOS9. Correction to address an issue that could lead to sprites not playing in MacOS9 when multiple commands are passed in the same handler (pause, seek, play).
Fixed bug with Paused At Start not working when a sprite was starting at the very first frame of the score in Director.
Fix for member(x).register() function not working correctly at runtime when using #new to create Mpeg Advance Xtra sprites dynamically (WIN).
Xtra no longer traps key events. This makes it possible to use global keydown handlers without having to pass the event from a behavior attached to the Xtra sprite (USER REQUEST).

VERSION 1.03 01/26/03
Changes to improve playback of scaled video in some Windows configurations, by allowing the system to prefer YUV overlay surfaces in DTS playback. Previous versions used a setting that causes some video drivers to bypass hardware-acceleration when playing in DTS mode. Technote MA004 has more information on this improvement.
Now it is possible to add and remove cuepoints while a sprite is playing (USER REQUEST).

VERSION 1.02 01/14/03
Changes to support non-standard MPEG1 files on OSX. Previous versions will not render these files on some conditions, presenting a white image instead. Technote MA003 has more information on this issue.
Fixed problem when setting the movierate in a "on beginsprite" handler (WIN/MAC).
The sprite.rect property now returns the correct value when it is updated via Lingo (WIN/MAC).
Removes white flash on OSX when the movie window is refreshed before the MPEG movie is loaded. White flash will still occur on MacOS Classic when using the toolbar in DTS mode.
Certified to operate with QT 6.1 on MacOSX.

VERSION 1.01 01/08/03
Updated registration code to allow multiple users on OSX and WindowsXP to read the same registration file, created in Director's home directory during authoring.
No changes to movie playback or authoring code
