Arca Database Xtra is a database solution specifically engineered for
Director developers. It is fast and powerful, yet very simple to learn.
Developers that already work with other database software will feel instantly
at home with Arca, since the Xtra accepts standard SQL queries to insert,
update and retrieve data directly to your project. And in most cases it
is also possible to reuse SQL queries developed for other database engines,
specially MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Oracle and MS SQL Server.
The Arca Database Xtra provides everything needed to create and use
database files from your projector. It is both a database client and
the database server. Your Director project can run from a CD-ROM with
no installations required in the client machines. Arca runs perfectly on all platforms
supported by Director, out of the box. Arca serial numbers and database
files are also cross platform, so you can move your Director movies
and database files transparently when testing cross platform functionality.
Arca is built on top of a customized version of SQLite
, a widely used embedded database engine. SQLite is present in several
software projects and tools, including PHP5 and Firefox. In most cases Arca database
files can be opened and used by other tools that also use the SQLite
engine, for easier sharing of data.
Arca also ships with the Arca Database Browser, a high-performance
application written in C/C++, running natively in Windows or MacOSX.
This application makes it possible to create, inspect and edit Arca
databases and data using a graphical user interface, without writing
a single line of Lingo code. Data can be edited in a spreadsheet interface,
and tables and indexes can be created and defined using wizards. The
Arca Database Browser makes it possible to test and develop your databases
easier and more quickly, and can be redistributed free of charge to
your customers if necessary.
The download package includes a fully functional trial version of the
software, documentation and two sample movies that show how to use it.
