Updating to Director MX 2004 10.1

Macromedia released the Director MX 2004 version 10.1 update on September 16th, 2004. The update comes as an installer that overwrites your existing copy of Director MX 2004 and fixes several issues identified by Macromedia since the initial release of Director MX 2004. The update also increases Director's version number to 10.1 and introduces the ability to cross publish Mac Classic projectors from Windows. This document details the steps needed to upgrade your Tabuleiro Xtras to work with Director MX 2004 version 10.1.

The release of a new version of Director makes it necessary for us to retest all functions of every Xtra extensively, to make sure compatibility issues have not been introduced. Xtras released before 10.1 were not certified for operation in this version of Director, and may not work correctly with it. Some of our Xtras include a version number checking and will not operate under 10.1 automatically. Others (like ShapeShifter3D 1.7) will not operate correctly, generating an error when the Xtra is started.

Immediately after the public release of the MX 2004 10.1 updater all of our current products have been tested, revised as needed, updated and certified to operate with Director MX 2004 version 10.1. The revised versions can be downloaded from our web site, and are free upgrades to users that own the same major version of the Xtra, previously certified for operation with Director 8.5, MX and MX 2004 version 10.0 only. The appropriate minimum versions to work with Director MX 2004 10.1 are:

ShapeShifter3D 1.7.1 - free update to users of versions 1.x

Mpeg Advance Xtra 1.5.1 - free update to users of version 1.x

WebXtra 4.0.4 - free update to users of version 4.x

Arca Database Xtra 1.5.2 - free update to users of version 1.x

Audio Xtra 5.0.2 - free update to users of version 5.x

The latest versions are also certified for operation with Director 8.5.1, MX and MX 2004. When appropriate, the Windows installers now also include the files necessary to cross publish Mac OS Classic projectors and revised instructions for installation. Please notice that a new serial number is NOT needed: your existing serial numbers are still valid.

The recommended upgrade procedure for Director MX 2004 version 10.1 is:

a) Optional: make a backup copy of your xtrainfo.txt file before applying the update. Director MX 2004 10.1 updater overwrites any changes that you have made to this file when it installs. If you have already applied the update you will need to re-enter information about every 3rd party Xtra you own to xtrainfo.txt before you can publish cross platform projectors or Shockwave movies that auto download these Xtras.

b) Run the MX 2004 version 10.1 updater from Macromedia.

c) Download current versions of the Xtras you need, according to the table above.

d) Please follow the instructions in the installation page of the documentation carefully. The instructions have been revised for Director MX 2004 10.1, and include the proper installation paths to enable the new Mac OS Classic cross publishing feature.

e) Include information about each new Xtra to the xtrainfo.txt file, according to instructions in the installation docs. If you made a backup of xtrainfo.txt in step "a" you can cut and paste the lines related to Tabuleiro Xtras to the new file, as this information has not changed.

f) In most cases it is not necessary to register the Xtra again, unless you are installing to a different location. In this case your existing serial number for the same major version of the Xtra is still valid.
